BPAL limited edition, with profits funding the ACLU.

"FAKE NEWS: A scent of misdirection, of 140 frantic characters typed out in spite at 3am, and paranoia-clouded churlish accusations hurled at perceived enemies: crushed pink pepper pod, bitter white tobacco, gnarled patchouli, all covered in glinting, garish slashes of gold."

'Nasty Woman' perfume sends proceeds to Planned Parenthood and Emily's List

Donald Trump's "nasty woman" comment was one of the most memorable moments of the third presidential debate, inspiring people to stream Janet Jackson's "Nasty" in droves, create parody websites, and generally meme the heck out of that phrase.

And now, you can smell like a Nasty Woman as well.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, a company that makes limited edition perfumes inspired by cult movies and books like Hellboy and Sherlock Holmes, just announced a Nasty Woman perfume. Its scent is a combination of "black fig and patchouli, filthy bourbon vanilla, honeyed amber oud, and loukhoum."

Retailing at $24, the Nasty Woman perfume will split its proceeds between Planned Parenthood and the pro-choice campaign organization Emily's List.

RAWR

So today out in Burbank, CA, there was a trunk show for BPAL, where they were selling prototypes and old stock.

Including a prototype titled Lamia.

Several people were nice enough to offer to pick me up a bottle when I posted a request on the forum, but apparently it was EXTREMELY FUCKING POPULAR, and sold out.

The woman with whom I'd made the most concrete plans was too far back in line, and wasn't able to score a bottle for me. (seems that everyone ELSE on the damn thread did, the fuckers) I'm contacting the other people now who'd offered, juuuuust in case they happened to pick up a bottle anyway.

Fuuuuuuuck

Having said all of that, there is this: Several people posting early reviews said that they smell cinnamon or cardamom most strongly. And the one ingredient that gives me an allergic reaction? Yepper, cardamom.

Mebbe it's for the best. I won't push too hard, and it shall be as it shall be. But I will keep my ISO thread up, in case I can score an imp or two. Could be worse, could have been a patchouli pomegranite scent and then I would have had to fly out to LA and kill everyone who bought a bottle and take it from them LOL

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck....

18 hours ago I heard he was ill, today I find out he's gone.

RIP Sarnac.

++++++++++++++++++

On a barely more cheery note, I found this http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061205/ap_on_fe_st/batty_christmas

Full text below )

Today, I wear Bengal. It still doesn't smell like an Indian Spice Market, but it does smell slightly less of Play-Do and Cinnamon Red Hots.

A sultry and unruly blend that emulates the ambient scent of the markets in ancient Bengal: skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger.

Drydown has honey, definately, but sugared cinnamon is the dominant note.

Awfully depressed about Sarnac.

Today I smell like, as hubby put it, "Of those potpourri candle things". At least "Gomorrah" doesn't have the malicious staying power of tutti-fru...er, I mean "Bordello".

Tonight, at 9:30, I get to have [livejournal.com profile] spiderine all to myself for an entire weekend *joy* Such shopping plans we have for Saturday, all fiber-related :)

Saw a variation of this Read more... ) article while waiting for my latte this morning. Just goes to show that you shouldn't be a jerk unneccesarily, or a mouse will burn down your house.

Have to vaccuum. Have been procrastinating on that. But if it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done... This morning, I decided that if I were Empress, when people parked stupid and caused traffice issues, police would immediately contact local radio stations, and the DJ would make an announcement that sounded something like "There's a huge traffic jam in downtown, because a pink sedan, license plate Texas 123ABC, has parked illegally and cars are backed up trying to go in one lane so that a rig can unjam itself". Because the embarassment factor would be a good icing to the ticket-cake. I mention this because there is a spot on the corner of my block that isn't really a parking spot, there's no meter, but there is space, and normally there's not a problem, but like this morning, when an 18-wheeler was stuck trying to make the turn down Prince Street and couldn't because this silver car was parked in the "not really a space" space, there were cops holding up traffic and clearing out lanes so that the rig could back up and try a different route. Everyone was remarkably patient (how unlike New York!), I guess because they could see this huge stuck truck. It was cleared up fairly quickly, as these things go, but still annoying, I'm sure.

My last day of glorious freedom, boss is back next week. Such a conundrum - do we hurry up and wish for the weekend for Spiderness? Or do we revel in the work week and pray that it's long because it's actually pleasant? Hmmm...of course it's moot now :)

My last message on IM before I went home yesterday "Make sure you have a hard-one when I get home"

An LJ rarity from me:

SQUEEE!!!!!

My BPAL order arrived at lunch!!

SQUEEEE!!!! again!!

I ordered "Anne Bonny", "Bordello", "Gomorrah", "Kali", "Tezcatlipoca", and "Black Forest" (for my mother). They included "La Belle Dame Sans Merci" as the freebie.

The package smelled amazing upon opening *oooooo*

Remember, everyone, that body chemistry makes each smell different on every person, and YMMV.

Anne Bonny is sharp, with a green-ness. The description reads "A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense." I'm guessing it's the sandalwood that has the snap to it. Resniffing a while later, it reminds me of headshops from the 70's LOL Even as it's faded, that's the image I get from the now-pale scent.

Bordello is light and fruity, "Bawdy plum with amaretto, burgundy wine and black currant." There's an element of tropical chewing gum, but then not. It's a fruit mixture, rather than "banana!" or "lemon!", like a gourment candy store has so many flavors floating through the air when you first open the door. Rechecking after some evaporation, I think this is too light and sweet for me, we'll keep an eye (or nose) on it.

Gomorrah is unexpected and indescribable. Unopened, the bottle made me think "oh, soap!" Open, there was no way to identify the scents. "A gritty, sordid and languid scent: ripe fig, date and currant with black herbs." I think its the black herbs which confuse my nose, fruit I can identify but I can't decipher the "black leaf" scent lol After evaporation, it makes me think of a bath shop. Yep, still smells like a bath shop, even after more time.

Kali....omy.... "This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey." In the bottle it smells like honey and chocolate, but on my skin it immediately loses depth, but the scent improves as it evaporates. Turns flowery. Definately a keeper, as the scent turns sharp

Tezcaplipoca is very smoky. "Deep cocoa laced with patchouli, leather armor, ritual incense, and a touch of Xochiquetzal’s flowers." The leather is like a well-loved coat worn to a few too many clubs, and fresh loam. Smells like sex to me. Smells better and better the longer it's on. OMG I think I love this one!

La Belle Dame Sans Merci was the freebie, and has no information on content, claiming only "A bewitching, seductive scent, rife with mystery and foreboding." In the bottle, I think of my grandmother, who wore the perfumes my grandfather brough back from Communist Russia. On the back of my hand, it seems like a perfumed soap.

In the "general info" section, I'd ordered "Black Forest" for my mother, and it smells quite pine-y in the bottle. I'm not putting it on, since my arms are offically drenched LOL
