Tried to dye my hair blue last night, once again proving that my hair is NOT interested in doing anything but being it's own natural magnificent self. Which could be worse, obviously, but apparently I can't really have a lot of fun with it LOL

Took the packet of blue Kool-Aid and mixed it with half the amount of (cold) water suggested for making the drink (I can't believe that people actually ingest this crap voluntarily! Yikes!), poured it into a wide bowl, and read a book, the lower half of my hair soaking, for ten minutes, and stirring occasionally. When the buzzer went off, I rinsed briefly in the shower, and revealed myself to have....normal looking hair.

Naturally, darling hubby offered all of the usual supportive commentary, like "Why aren't you dying ALL of your grey hair?" and "My blue-haired old wife" and "Why aren't you dying the upper half, where all the grey is?"

*SMACK*

Grey hair doesn't make me look old, dear, wrinkles do, do I have wrinkles? (clever lad said that I did not LOL)

Anyway, Kool-Aid as a hair dye is a failure - not even the greys took on a blue tinge, have to say I'm rather disappointed!

(But my head DID smell like Kool-Aid until my hair dried, which made me laugh)

Kool aid only works after you've bleached the living crap out of it. And (trust me I know this) grey is the most resistant hair for dye-ing.
Try one of the halloween hair color sprays out right now - they last til you wash ans look really good!

Well, I did a wild cherry rinse not too long ago, but I'm not interested in anything permanent (my hair is WAY too long for that!). It was fun, but by the time it rinsed out completely, I was long past it.

Anyway, I'm not into dying my hair to cover the greys ;) I've seen too many Ladies Of A Certain Age do just vile things to themselves in an attempt to keep the illusion of youth around for a few more years. I just dye it for the entertainment value. When my hair was short enough that I would have been able to do curious things with color and cut, I was too young and terrified to do something like that. Now it's too long for me to do anything permanent that would require a serious trim to remove.

I earned all my greys, courtesy of hubby and family and life and Coronation most recently LOL

I color my hair to cover grey, but only til it's almost all grey. I find that my complexion + salt and pepper = corpse. I can't wait til the whole top of my head is silver - I want to do fun subtle tinting of the grey.

Coronation??? Do tell!

Gah! Don't use Kool-Aid! Ever!

I have a box full of beautiful, real hair dye that I will probably never be able to use again. But, blue wouldn't have worked anyway. Unless you have naturally light blonde hair, you need to use bleach first for it to take. I have learned this the very hard way. Also, gray hair is coarser, and generally much more resistant to dye anyway. Dark purple, dark red/magenta and maybe dark green will work on your natural hair.

If your a blonde, the blue takes great and looks wonderful. For a while..... and then it fades

And temp hair color on blonde - it doesn't 'wash out' as natural blonde hair is apparently hollow or some such thing and so it STAINS.
So you end up with greenish moldy looking hair that you either have let grow out or dye it again and risk ir all breaking off and poof you're bald.
And the "hey, your hairs moldy" joke wears thing REALLY fast..., especailly when your oh, 17-ish....

to dye for

Indigo doesn't work on dark hair either. I tried.

And I gave up on dyeing my hair. I've got this cool Lily Munster thing going on, I'm just going to run with it!
