Years ago, someone told me that children who died were the reincarnated souls of suicides, living out the remainder of the souls's life. And for years, this concept has annoyed me. I finally figured out why this morning in the laundromat (don't ask).

A child who dies is, for the sake of argument, presumably younger than 12. How many suicides are in their 60's and 70's? Aren't more of them in the teens, their twenties, their thirties? Wouldn't that mean that either A) a soul has to die multiple times as a child to "use up" all the extra years or B) the argument in fundamentally flawed?

Discuss.

That is just plain salt of the earth stupid.

It's just as stupid to say "my child died because God was angry at me"
Another reason why I thought the book of Job was beyond idiotic.

The concept of cosmos taking it's anger out on children, using children as a balance is ridiculous and I'm disgusted with anyone who thinks such things. They need to get out more and ...do things.
Not sit around and think up revolting scenarios to please their own conscious.

I have said my peace and counted to three.

These axioms and theories were all created many moons ago; when life expectancy was significantly shorter than it is not. Today these metrics seem silly. When old age was forty...

Or as Tom Lerher said - " When Mozart was my age, he'd been dead for three years..."

"Folks" needed a way to understand their world. In a world where real information was few and far between, they would make "science-through-observation" theories. To wit...

Supposition: Trees cause wind

Reasoning: When there is no wind, the trees do not move. When the trees move there is wind, hence...

That icon is just awesome, really!

If you accept the assumptions:

  1. Each soul has a fixed life allocation, which must be expended to ensure universal harmony and balance.
  2. Reincarnation happens.
  3. Souls which terminate early, through suicide, or other universal mistake, die as children.
Then the children would clearly have to die multiple times, in all likelihood.

However, I have an alternative solution for the suicide issue. What if suicides become the additional personalities for persons with multiple personalities? That would seem, to me, to adequately provide for the excess of conciousness floating around.

Did that person need their meds adjusted?
Sounds like.

Did they offer a rationale? Living out the 'remainder of life' is rather insufficient. Plenty of people 'die before their time' - violently or otherwise - not just suicides.

Maybe suicides are people who've 'lived more than their time' and are consequently finding balance. There's no end of psycho theories available.

Wow - never heard that particular idiocy. I had heard the "God's angry at me" thing (as if she has the time to be angry at any one individual for normal stupidity).

Perhaps, as MR stated, it was used "way back" when people lived to 40 to help comfort those who were grieving.

But I think it is pure BS. Kids are born with different "malfunctions." Depending on what it is, when it is caught and other circunstances (like healthcare access) they live or die.

Go pessimism!

Next time, please bring a book with you to the laundry mat. Your mind is wondering oddly there.

Considering that I spent more time trying to sign in than I did actually at the laundromat, I think it'd be a fairly slim book....
